Zanzibar is also known as “Spice Island”, getting this namesake from the abundance of spices grown on the islands. 

Some of these spices include clove, nutmeg, cinnamon, turmeric, chilli, black pepper and cardamom. 

Many spice farms offer tours of their farms, and some also offer a lesson in authentic Swahili cooking.
